Well if I am a Conservative politician I would be smiling after all this stupid focus on a what a hockey player MIGHT have said once. When you consider how all the focus had been on Afghanistan detainees this functioned as a release valve for them.
Personally this is right up there with the Nova Scotia motion griping about when the Senators game was on.
STUPID waste of taxpayers time.

It usually comes to my attention that whenever the federal politicians are bickering over lame issues such as this one, it means that there really isn't any appetite for election talk or what-not. They complain about such banal things that they promptly get ignored by the average voter. So much for that 'anticipated election.'
While Canadians were busy watching actual hockey, the politicians and the media collectively wet themselves over this.
This whole thing doesn't do any political party good, regardless of what was talked about as well, because the 'top story' ends up being on trying to crack down on a frickin' hockey player.
If I'm a Conservative politician, I'm hanging my head in shame because I had a chance to stop this, but didn't.
It might have diverted attention, but this was a sad spectacle and despite their protestations that they just wanted to give Hockey Canada a chance to tell their side, they should have voted against. They have a minority on the committee anyway. Hockey Canada would still have been hauled before the committee, but the Conservatives would have been able to shake their heads and say 'wasn't us'.
They lost an opportunity to take the high road and I'm disappointed in their approach.
Absolutely correct canadi-anna. I fail to understand the Conservative's thinking here. There's no way they could have lost support by speaking loudly against this.
I'm a Canadian and I hang my head in shame that our elected people behave in such a manner and project to the world the image of Canada as a bunch of idiots.
Ditto to the two above. If Harper and the cons could not find a way round this without agreeing to it they do not have the brains to run a majority government. I will not be voting in the next election and my guy in Boudrias old riding only has a 200 vote majority.
